Note:

If you don’t have Big Balls or Heavy Balls, you can always do a sequence of moves or shots with regular ball to get reps.

Dribble Moves for Bigs and Perimeters

Diagram 1:

Players start in the corner with a spin back and two 180 degree pivots.

Emphasize:

Leading with the elbows

Ripping the ball through chin to hip or hip to chin to protect the ball.

First Cone:

In and Out Dribble

Note:

We go through this drill three times on each side of the floor using a Big Ball then a Heavy Ball and finally a Regular Ball.

Diagram 2:

Second Cone:

Spin or Reverse Dribble

Note:

Emphasize a tight spin, pulling the ball with the same hand, ball down, head up.

Diagram 3:

Third Cone:

Pullback or Retreat Dribble (to avoid double team),

Emphasize:

Turn your body to protect the ball with shoulder, hips, and arm bar, two quick hop back steps or retreat steps keeping feet spread or wide to a Double Crossover.

Diagram 4:

After Pull Back or Retreat Dribble and Double Crossover, Player dribbles between the cones, makes a move on the last cone and finishes at the basket.

Moves:

In and Out Double

Crossover

Spin

Layup

Finish off one foot

Finish off of two feet

Crow Hop

Euro Step

Floater

Pull Up J

Note:

We require Bigs to pass fake, shot fake, and pivot twice before they score.

We also require Bigs take the ball out of the net, chin the ball with a wide base, and score it again vs the pad to make sure they are on balance when they try to score in traffic!

Note:

Drives vs the Pad make this an even better drill.

3/4 Court Lay Ups: Warm Up or Dribble Move Drill

3/4 Court Lay Ups

Can be used as a warm up drill to get your guys loose or as a dribble move drill.

There are four shots.

Diagram 1:

1. Lay Up

Starting from 3/4, player dribbles the length of the court and lays the ball in.

He then rebounds the make and dribbles down the middle third of the court toward half court.

When Player gets to half-court circle he then jump stops and makes two pivots emphasizing staying low and ripping the from hip to chin or chin to hip.

Player then makes a pass to the next player in line.

Diagram 2:

2. The Pull Up J

Player dribbles the length of the court and pulls up at the block and shoots a bank shot off the glass.

He then rebounds the make and dribbles down the middle third of the court toward half court.

When Player gets to half-court circle he then jump stops and makes two pivots emphasizing staying low and ripping the ball from hip to chin or chin to hip.

Player then makes a pass to the next player in line.

Diagram 3:

3. One Move-Crossover Dribble

Player dribbles down the outer third of the court.

When he gets top of the key extended, he crosses over and attacks the elbow.

Player shoots and elbow J.

Player emphasizes keeping the ball down and his head up, pushing the ball out in front, and making that last dribble a hard one into his J.

The phrase we use is “small to tall”.

He then rebounds the make and dribbles down the middle third of the court toward half court. When Player gets to half-court circle he then jump stops and makes two pivots emphasizing staying low and ripping the from hip to chin or chin to hip.

Player then makes a pass to the next player in line.

Diagram 4:

4. Two Moves-Crossover and Spin Dribble

Player dribbles down the outer third of the court to the top of the key extended.

Player crosses over for first move attacking the elbow.

At the elbow, Player spin or reverse dribbles down the lane line and attacks the basket shooting a lay up.

Player emphasizes keeping the ball down and his head up, pushing the ball out in front on the crossover.

On the spin dribble, Player spins tightly keeping the ball in the same hand.

After his spin, the Player attacks the rim making a hard, aggressive, scoring drive.

He then rebounds the make and dribbles down the middle third of the court toward half court.

When Player gets to half-court circle he then jump stops and makes two pivots emphasizing staying low and ripping the from hip to chin or chin to hip.

Player then makes a pass to the next player in line.
