CORPUS CHRISTI – Islanders Head Men’s Basketball Coach Willis Wilson recently spent a few minutes with GoIslanders.com to update the fans on the goings on of his team. Coach Wilson looked back at his first year at the helm of the Islanders in addition to previewing the offseason and year number two for the new coaching staff.

The Islanders had 10 newcomers, including seven freshmen, on last season’s roster, which was the youngest in the Southland Conference. The Islanders had road wins over SLC Tournament teams Sam Houston State and UTSA. The Islanders also had five freshmen all average over 10 minutes a game, including Johnathan Jordan, who set the program’s single season mark for assists in a season with 138.

Scott Lazenby Named Director of Athletics at Texas A & M Corpus Christi
Lazenby Named Director of Athletics
CORPUS CHRISTI – Interim Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby has been named Director of Athletics, University President Dr. Flavius Killebrew announced today. Lazenby’s promotion will be effective on May 1.
“In his eight months as our Interim Director of Athletics, Scott displayed the leadership and integrity that we expect from the upper administrators at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi,” Killebrew said. “Because of his dedication to Islanders Athletics and the Coastal Bend, I have nothing but confidence in the continued growth and success of our intercollegiate athletics program.”
University Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dr. Trent S. Hill echoed Killebrew’s comments, also stressing Lazenby’s South Texas ties as a significant factor in his hiring.
“Scott exemplifies the vision and integrity that we strive for at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, and naming him the Director of Athletics was the logical and prudent decision,” Hill said. “He, his wife Holly, and their children Hunter and Lillie are proud citizens of the Coastal Bend and have immersed themselves in this community. We look forward to the stability his leadership will provide for our department of athletics.”
Lazenby, a native of Tomball, Texas, was named Interim Director of Athletics in September 2011 after three years leading the Islanders’ NCAA compliance department. He was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration and Compliance in 2010.
“I would like to thank President Killebrew and Dr. Hill for selecting me to be elevated to this position,” Lazenby said. “I am humbled at the opportunity to lead the Islanders and am excited for our future. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is on the verge of great things in so many areas, and our department of athletics is no exception. We are on the cusp of a great era of Islanders Athletics.”
Lazenby previously served as the assistant athletic director for compliance for seven years at Texas State – San Marcos (2001-2008), where he oversaw all NCAA and Southland Conference compliance issues. Prior to traveling to San Marcos, he spent two years at Texas A&M in College Station, where he served as a compliance assistant during the 2000-01 school year. He also served as an advisor in the athletic academic offices from 1999-00.
From 1997-99, Lazenby was the Youth Activities Manager for the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. He also spent three years (1994-97) as Program Director at the Cypress Creek YMCA in Houston.
Lazenby earned both his bachelor’s of science and master’s degrees in Sport Management from Texas A&M. The Lazenby family currently resides in Flour Bluff.

Clinic Opportunities at 2012 Final Four: John Lucas Clinic and Mixer in New Orleans
John Lucas Enterprises would like to invite you to John’s Final Four Mixer Thursday, March 29th. Come enjoy the buffet, mix and mingle with others in your profession and also get to know all the great things John Lucas Enterprises is doing all the way from grassroots to the NBA level. John has always been a mainstay at the professional level, but over the last two years he has put his input on the grassroots basketball.
The clinic begins at 10am on Sunday, April 1st at Fogleman Gym on the campus of Tulane University.
